National Bourbon Heritage Month
September is National Bourbon Heritage Month when bourbon lovers worldwide toast the craftsmanship and contributions of America's Native Spirit. Culturally, economically, and socially sourced in America, Bourbon is an authentic all-American beverage. The month-long celebration encourages people to appreciate and responsibly enjoy bourbon throughout September.
Bourbon was officially recognized as a distinctive product of the United States in 1964 when Congress passed an act recognizing it. Under federal law, bourbon must be made in the United States, consist of at least 51% corn, and be aged in new, charred oak containers.
Around 1807, two men known as the Tarascon brothers began shipping Kentucky whiskey to New Orleans, NOLA's famous entertainment district, Bourbon Street. The goods were so good that people started asking for it by name, as in, "Give me that whiskey they sell on Bourbon Street," which eventually became "that bourbon whiskey."
At Bourbon Awareness, you can learn more about America's native spirit. Bourbon Awareness and Whiskey University's sole mission is to educate the public about the history and virtues of Bourbon, Tennessee Whiskey, and other various whiskeys.
