Penelope 2024 Estate Collection Private Select 9-Year Bourbon Review/Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

Nose: Rich aromas of almond, burnt brown sugar, butterscotch, and caramel immediately emanate from the glass. Touches of succulent dark plums, cherry, apricots, honey, and sweet orange vanilla custard weave in and out, and the aroma brings a very inviting depth.

Palate: The excellent spice and fruity opening starts with cinnamon, mellow allspice, and black pepper, followed by hints of orange, cherry, apricot, and toasted oak. A touch of orange rind citrus and sweet cherry adds a nice complexity. The spice and sweetness linger on, offering excellent depth and all-around balance. I enjoyed all the flavors, along with a medium-thick viscosity mouthfeel.

Finish: Cinnamon, black pepper, orange rind, and honey are prominent, along with a light amount of toasted oak. This combination leaves you with an enjoyable medium-to-long lingering finish.

Summary: Penelope Estate Collection Private Select is a nine-year-old Bourbon representing the culmination of Penelope's craftsmanship, from hand-selected barrels to meticulously crafted blends. I enjoyed last year's Barrel Strength 9Yr Private Select Bourbon, a great sipping bourbon. Paladini and Polise have pulled out all the stops with this new release of Penelope's Estate Collection Private Select 9-year-old Bourbon. It is a delicious, well-balanced, easy drinker, and I'm wildly pleased to have a bottle in my whiskey collection. Congratulations, and great job to the two New Jersey guys for making another fine bourbon.
